Swatch celebrates 30 years

The watch that born 30 years ago and changed the world is having an anniversary. In 1983 the first of 12 models of Swatch watches made its debut. Remember Swatch?! When members of CwW were younger, the style was to wear multiple Swatches on your arms...but we digress. They were funky, bright, and works of art in some cases.

Today, after three decades of sly wit, audacious innovation, and playful provocation, Swatch has every reason to celebrate. Those first 12 watches from 1983 have been followed by millions, and now there is one that brings it all back to mind- the impossible, incredible story of swatch.

SWATCH Est.1983 boasts a transparent plastic case and strap along with a skeleton dial offering a clear view of the movement within. Key components are highlighted in gold; on one, a golden driving wheel, the word CELEBRATE appears twice in black, And printed in gold on the bold silver band are the 30 years from 1983 to 2013.

1983 is definitely worth a long look. Every year since, has brought innovative breakthroughs from Swatch, with new technologies and ground breaking designs. In the 30 years since, the watch brand has designed and created nearly 5,000 different models. As most watch collectors know, every piece in their collection tells a story and the Swatch story, is far from over.

Swatch is also celebrating the grand re-opening of their store in the Ala Moana Center in Oahu on September 21st from Noon to 3pm. Stop by and meet Swatch Pro Team surfer Kassia Meador. If you're in the area, check it out and tell the great Swatch folks hello from Team CwW!

Congratulations Jordan

The winning photo
CwW wants to send a BIG congratulations to Jordan Hecocks (Instagram: @dumblydor), the lucky winner of the Brillier Fortress giveaway, courtesy of the Zee Watch Group. It was such a close contest, but Jordan's amazing photo nabbed the most reader votes.

Here's what he had to say after receiving the watch earlier this week...

Want to thank all of you again! It is an incredible watch...

He also sent us a couple of shots of the unboxing...

How good does that look?! We are so excited that Jordan loves his new watch and can't thank Zee Watch Group enough for sponsoring this awesome giveaway for the CwW Collectors.

Congratulations Jordan from everyone at Chicks with Watches!

W.T Author "1905" Launch

CwW has been fortunate enough to be introduced to a really cool new watch brand, called W.T Author. The newly launched Limited Edition "1905" represents the first in a series of Swiss made watches that have been hand-finished in Britain. One of 13 future designs:

'No. 1905' Black Dial with Black Strap
The ‘No. 1905′ first edition watch draws inspiration from the turn of the 20th Century: a time when the first wristwatches for men were introduced by Louis Cartier and Edmond Jaegar. Taking inspiration from traditional aesthetics of the pocket watch, it reflects pioneering achievements of the era with signature shoulders brazed directly into the bespoke case allowing a hand-finished leather strap to be fitted. The dial utilises numbers taken directly from 1900′s pocket watches and is enhanced with Author’s unique hour markers. Traditionally formed custom-made hands complete the dial. The watch has been modernized with a beautiful enamel screw down case back, the signature red aluminum crown embossed with the Author trademark and a Swiss made 513S caliber movement.

'No. 1905' Blue Dial with Brown Strap
Every watch comes with an A5 book detailing the story of master watchmaker W.T Author, individually signed by the team and a limited edition A5 silk screen print available in 5 colours, individually numbered and signed. The set is beautifully presented in a custom-designed package.

Screw down case back

Each watch boasts a sturdy, stainless steel case measuring 46mm in diameter, signature red crown (embossed with trademark), enamel screw down case back (with numbers 1 to 125 of 125), and handmade leather straps.
The W.T Author '1905' will be sold for £350 or around $500 (USD).

Though CwW has not had "hands on" the '1905', we can confidently say the watches look amazing. We really like the vintage look to them and the representation of 13 decades of beautiful watch making.
